Massive contrast to the bright blue of the other day! Good pic Kas
Did they have a spat after?

They came very close to having a spat. I've seen them lock mouths occasionally and manoeuvre till one lets go, but tonight it was a quick chase around the tank then they both went back to their own territory. To be fair they generally put up with one another.

Yes the colours are interesting. They go a lovely polychromatic (I think that's the word) blue when feeding and presumably, happy, and a yellow with black markings at other times. Interesting fish *grin*

    Sounds good to me lol
I swear i was watching our apistos fade their lines and colour back up again before my eyes the other day. Thought i was seeing things lol
At least they generally get along ok and have their own space, they are a fascinating species :)

I love watching the interactions of dwarf cichlids, though they can also be hard work at times!

Indeed. I'm just delighted that, fingers crossed, this particular species is happy in my tank.

It is great to watch, although I am sometimes worried that one of them will get hurt, but they seem to have sorted out their own tank rules.

The usual Sunday; relaxing with a cup of tea, looked over at the tank, and yikes! The water looks hell of a cloudy. Lights are off so over I go for a closer inspection. The bigger of the two powerheads isn't there. I found it lying on the substrate in amongst the plants stirring up everything.  I don't know why the suction cups gave out, but needless to say big water change carried out, and keeping everything crossed that I don't have an algae bloom.

I think I'll leave the tank lights off for a couple of days just in case.

I wouldn't leave the lights off with plants, but don't feed for a couple of days.

*agree* I'd keep everything as normal but maybe cut down the ferts a bit plants will take up ammonia very well in a heavily planted tank like yours with good growth. :)

BTW Not sure if you've seen these, but you can get some with magnets rather than suckers e.g. http://charterhouse-aquatics.com/shop/aquatics/aquarium-aquariums/powerheads-6/tunze-turbelle-nanostream-6015-circulation-pump

Found them to be a bit more reliable

Thanks both. Lights are on and it's not as bad as I thought it might be. I'll forgo any ferts for a couple of days. Thankfully the water parameters are fine. I also put some Clarity in last night to try to help.

I think the external will need opening up for some gentle cleaning this weekend.

I've fallen out of love with fish keeping!!!

    Really bloody annoyed with myself and I'm hoping this post will be cathartic for me. It's taken two days to be able to face talking about it. Here goes;

Water change Sunday afternoon. Everything unplugged as normal. Finished and doorbell went, friends had arrived unexpectedly.  Said my hellos and quickly plugged everything back in. The CO2 and lights are on timer switches, but for speediness I just put the plugs directly into the socket.

I was shattered by Sunday evening and went to bed at 9pm so before I went upstairs I took the light plug out and the CO2 plug out.

Horror the next morning. I'd not taken the CO2 plug out,  I'd taken a powerhead plug out instead, the CO2 was running ALL night. I lost 5 rummies, 2 emperors, 5 hatchets, all my embers a part from 2 survivors, and 1 sterbai.

I'm absolutely gutted and completely furious with myself. I was always so wary of CO2 and have been ultra careful. I can't believe how stupid I've been.
