Today's test results appear to be the same as yesterday.
Also has my wood gone moldy or is this some kind of white algae?
Sorry about the rubbish picture, my phone doesn't take great pictures through the glass.

Nothing to worry about, it will clear. Its just some bacteria/leeching from the wood, you can either take it out and clean it or leave it clear with the cycle.

You only started the cycle a few days ago. I wouldn't be overly concerned.

I am going to fit my bulbs this weekend and sort out a condensation shield. I have seen some very affordable plastic corrugated shed roofing at wickes, should do the trick right?

Also today my ammonia is looking much more like 1 ppm  *grin*
Maybe my fish can move in in a week or so at this rate. I will give another media squeeze this weekend so that will make things move faster. As well as plants being moved from old tank to new tank the ammonia processing should be really moving soon.

Shed roofing sounds like a clever idea.

Ammonia is getting lower every day, I have taken a test of my old tank and the new tank for a colour comparison as it's getting close.  here it is.
    Old on the right.
Hopefully be zero tomorrow then I will see how long it takes

I have managed to fit my condensation cover and lights today.
I just need to buy a big multi socket extention lead so I can plug the timer and the extra powerhead in.
I can finish off the rest of the painting now that the tank is sealed.
Here is a picture of the the tank with the lights on and one of today's ammonia test.
Looking like zero to me,  how about you?
    Top up to 1 ppm?

That does look yellowy, top it up and see how it deals with it in the next 24 hours. Sounds like you've been busy, and the tank is looking good :) coming along nicely

    Bitting and bobbing as usual.
Thanks,  will be much better once the cabinet is finished.  Still got to make a draw and a couple of shelfs then finish the painting and now the condensation cover is installed I don't feel so paranoid about the fumes.

All starting to fall into place now.

I have removed the wood. I could smell sulphur and upon drilling into the wood I discovered that it was rotten inside. Can someone please tell me that I have not ruined the tank.

This is today's test results after topping up to 1 ppm yesterday.

I dont think you have ruined it, as long as you have removed it. Im not 100% sure but i believe rotting wood/vegetation would release ammonia or would cause anaerobic gas pockets (similar to what you can get using play sand). Which (if the previous) would help with the cycle :)
Ammonia is looking good, nitrites off the scale (dont worry that will drop all of a sudden)
