Fin rot? Diamond Tetras need help.
« on: November 26, 2016, 04:36:38 pm »
I have just noticed part of one of my beautiful diamond Tetras fins looks like it's missing.

It's the top half of his tail fin. Small white dot at the beginning of it too.

The tetra is fine, he eating. And none of them look like they're bullying each other. However they are constantly swimming frantically.

Please see video attached hopefully it works.

Thank you

Does look a bit damaged, if you can add some melafix and maybe feed some crushed garlic just to help the immune system. Might help stop it getting infected and help it regrow.
Only half dose if you have gourami or betta

If the fish is ok otherwise it may well do just to stop any secondary infection. Its worked for me when my fish have split their fins

Should I dose it daily or just once?

You may need something to get rid of the fungus that's already formed. Pimafix may be strong enough.
Can you remind us of everything else in the tank please besides those and the embers?

Nothing really to nip then, unless they are bickering for dominance.

So I'm dosing about 15ml primafix and melafix as my waters about 130-140 litres.

Cleaned out both canister filters today and did a 40% water change. Everything is sparkling clean. I'll do the 7 day treatment.

Will finish the last of the seven day dosing tomorrow. Can't tell if the fin has changed. I don't want to carry on the dosing I was just going to do excessive water changes like 2 x 50% a week and that should make it heal quicker.

Or should I carry on dosing?

Pristine water is probably just as good, the meds just help clear the problem up.
Just Melafix will help with regrowth. ;)
