Please help! my Bristlenose has something wrong!
« on: May 19, 2017, 04:02:41 pm »
The first picture was taken a few days ago. I did a full water change and added some aquarium salts. I have ordered some Melafix which will arrive tomorrow. the last picture was taken today. I also have some anti-fungus used for fin rot but not sure if that will help at all for this.

What should I do??

Thanks

Hi Aaron. I don't have a lot of experience, but this looks serious to me unfortunately. I don't know what, if anything, to suggest myself, but I've used the report to moderators option, to see if someone more experienced than me can have a look for you.

Mods, I hope I was OK to use the option like this, it suggested to do so on the forum list page.

    Hi Suelo,

thanks for the reply and reporting to the moderator for help. Yes it looks really bad I don't know what could have caused this and I hope it won't spread to other fish. This fish is getting weak and seems like its dying but I don't have any clove oil to help ease its passing sadly. :(

Ouch! that looks painful... I think it may be too late looking at that... not a clue what that could be but i'd guess that he got an injury on something sharp or a heater burn, and it got infected?

Hopefully one of the mods knows what's up

*blink* I think that will need something a little stronger than melafix.

    Esha2000 maybe?

Either burns from the heater, i'm also not sure about using aquarium salt with scaleless fish. I think that can cause burns or lesions.
That does look bad, I honestly dont know if he/she will recover from that.
I would recommend a large water change to dilute the salt.
How long has your tank been set up and what are the parameters? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate ph etc

Perhaps its the salt then as I used that to treat Ick. The tank is around 6 months old and Ammonia etc are non existent.

Did you add the salt directly to the tank?

I scoped out some tank water and added it to their 1 teaspoon per gallon ratio until it dissolved then poured it in.

Terrible. My advise would have been to euthanise. Looks like a flesheating bacteria of some kind. Yackkkk

    Sorry you lost it. :(
If you don't have a guard for the heater, get one, they will try to get algae off them and burn in the process of doing so.

    Hi,
I have found this replacement heater as I do not have a guard and rather just buy a new heater with a included guard.
    Underworld Aquarium Heater Visitherm150W
    or
    FLUVAL E Advanced Electronic Heater, 200 W
    or
JBL Pro Temp S 150 Watt

This is what I found and seems to have great reviews plus a guard included. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
