Back to Healthy....
« on: May 23, 2017, 05:05:47 pm »
Hi fish fans

after some weeks and weeks of high nitrates and a couple of fungal outbreaks including ich or whitespot, and losing most of my fish, hopefully....hopefully things are looking more positive, you can see the original post here:

https://www.tropicalfishforums.co.uk/index.php/topic,232370.msg2900649.html#msg2900649

i have also re landscaped the tank and added some bogwood, although this has altered the water chemistry and colour a little, seems to be having a positive effect on the tank and the fish.

i have added a second carbon filter pad just on the safe side to filter out some of the tannins even though i did soak the wood for over a week.

a massive thankyou to everyone who gave advice and input, top notch advice as always.

TC

    hi fish fans

thank you for your comments, its been hard work but worth every minute, i wasn't sure about the bogwood at first but i am getting used to it.

i have 3 gold barbs, 3 bristle nose catfish (they are loving the wood) and 3 platys.

i was thinking of adding a couple of new fish at the weekend following a water change and test, ive seen some dalmation mollys which are really nice, they are quite hardy and community so should be ok.

still thinking of investing in an extenal filter !!

    thanks again everyone.

If you have the sort of water that livebearers cope with then it may be worth having a look at celebes rainbows (they arent true rainbowfish). They can cope with quite hard water but they do need good water quality so if you are still unsure of your water then maybe wait. They are a good alternative to larger tetra for harder water areas, I've had no issues with the 6 I brought in a couple of months back.
