UK Citizenship Test
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:21:29 pm »
Dont know if any of you watched Make Bradford British last night, but I decided to try the UK Citizenship Test that they used in the show.

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/make-bradford-british/articles/channel-4-citizenship-test

I got 8 out of 24. 33%.

Immigrants have to get at least 75% in order to stay in the country indefinitely.

Another pathetic, pointless, waste of time idea by the government...

Don't get me started on this subject.

I was born in Luton to two white british parents. I have always held a uk passport and was fortunate enough to have left the uk at a young age (before I was issued a NI number) and was brought up in hot country.
When I came to live in the uk (2005) I had to get a job etc. I went to the DWP in town and they could not find me on the system as I had never had an NI number.  To cut a very long story short after 12 weeks of being told different information I had to travel to Oxford for an interview to see if I was allowed to live in the uk!!!
To make matters worse , the person interviewing me was originally from CHINA!!

I immigrated here 12 years ago from a hot country.

Went through the process of becoming a "local", and was one of the first people to do the Citizenship Test.
In way I was a bit annoyed. If my papers would have come through a week earlier, then I wouldn't have had to do it.
But on the other hand, I don't see it as a bad thing. If a person wants to get the passport, then there is nothing wrong with expecting them (myslelf included here) to understand a few of the basics of British life...the way the government works, a bit of history etc.

When I went for the test, I was really nervous. Didn't want to fail!
So bought the book a few weeks before and really studied it. When I got to the exam centre, the woman in front of me, from another hot country a bit further north than the one I was from, had to get her husband to translate when she signed in. I thought that if she couldn't do that......then I should cruise it.
We then went into the exam room and were put in front of computers. The examiner asked if she must show me how to use the mouse.....uhm. No thanks, I know how it works....
Anyway, I finished the 24 questions in about 15 minutes. Left the room and had to wait for the others.
Was handed my certificate...aced it. Got 1 wrong.

And I now carry my passport with pride, and a bit of knowledge of how my adopted country works.

I used to live in Bradford, so I'm quite interested in the programme. Might have to see if I can find it online to watch.

I do have one suggestion as to things that could be done to make Bradford British: everyone gets to buy car insurance, sit their own driving test and have their own driving licence, and pay for an MOT as needed. All I can say is that, as a former solicitor practising family and criminal law, I have a fair idea which part of the community is most often up in court for not having any or all of those things.

Let's not mention drug dealing, prostitution, passing underage white girls around your mates or anything else like that. I was amazed there's a prosecution under way in Oldham regarding that last one just now, I was fairly sure that Bradford would be first off the mark with that.

I promise you, I am so not a racist. Really I'm not. That's just the way it is, or was up to 2006 and I doubt it's changed much if at all.

Since you've already gone, can I have your points?
