model advice needed please
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:01:14 pm »
Hi,

I have just bought a model wooden rowing boat that fits my aquarium perfect and I really want to put in the tank. The issue is that its painted and varnished. how can I make this aquarium safe? I really want this to go in! so as much advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh! and I've only got 1 shot at this as it was expensive.

I dont know to be honest but I would be concerned as I'm sure you are of sucker fish like plec and alga eaters striping the paint and varnish off.  What fish have you got?

Don't put it in. Fish will graze off it, will be harmful to them.

don't do it is always the easy answer. what I want to know is how to do it?

strip all paint and varnish off with a dremel?

coat it in acrylic clear coat?

There is always a way. Just figuring it out.

What wood is it though? Some woods wouldn't be safe for using in an aquarium.
