My tank top trim is leaking
« on: October 30, 2014, 04:46:32 pm »
I have a water streem running down the front of my tank and dripping onto the floor /soaking into the wooden stand

The tank wasn't new and irrc was made in 1991 or 1999 what can I do ? Re silicone it back on? Water level is not higher than the trim in the inside of the tank

The top trim shouldn't leak... how much water are you talking? It could be condensation building up in the gap inside the tank?

Do you get much condensation buildup in the hood?

Not alot .. There are 2 holes at the back for wires and I can imagine most of it would escape through that

strange one this, drop the water level below the trim on the outside if you can. and then see what happens, if still leaking then its the tank at that level, but i would say condensation, ......... i am stumped.

    Yes, I agree with Wayne.
Either the water is too high, or there's too much water movement, or it's running warm, or there's a gap in the trim so that, instead of the condensation running back down the inside, it's running down the outside.
If it's the latter, then a drop of aquarium sealant will fix it.
See what happens when you drop the water level.
Sent from my PC as I still don't understand the the logic for mobile internet usage ;) *grin*

My marina does it and its brand new, its condensation that causes it, It does it more when I put my arm in the tank, Try getting a condensation tray and dropping the water line down a few mm

This is mine, Mine doesn't even mention it was made by Hagen, Apart from the fact it said it on the box, If you are careful you will soon learn the most water you can put in a tank, With mine you can just see the top of the water, It is level with the trim.
