Thanks for the comments....
I wasn't really going to test for Nitrates, just decided to do the full monty. Waiting for my ammonia to drop a bit more, currently at 2ppm.
I am going to add some plants this week, gives me something else to look at :)

Looks like it's kicked into full gear! I don't think you'll have to wait too much longer.

I'm thinking of taking mine back to the shop and complain that it was sold with faulty bacteria  :twirly:

Only top the ammonia up to 1ppm every 24 hours while the nitrite is that high. When you can actually read the nitrite test, revert to 2ppm ammonia. :)

Plants..... and I thought searching for fish was hard work  *blink*
Bought a mixture of 15 plants and decided to just put them in and see what they grow like, almost certainly will have to move them around.
A few of the tags with the plant names where loose in the box, and a few looked really similar. There are a few at the back, as I recognised them as background plants.

I was a bit worried about this one, so didn't put it in.... any ideas what's on the leaves?

A hell of a lot of snail eggs by the looks of it... do they feel like jelly? Get rid of the eggs, that's a hell of a lot of snails!

Now that the leaves have dried out (roots are  still stood in a glass) they basically turn to powder when you rub them.... Pretty much all over every leaf. Rather just bin it than take a chance

That looks like the spore pods of a java fern leaf, completely harmless.

Thanks for info on the leaf... I put it in my tank and threw a black towel across the back to see what a black background would look

Quite like it...... Should be fun pulling the tank out to paint it  *blink* Think i'll do it when I do my final 80% water change

Last couple of days I've topped up my ammonia to 1ppm before work, come home 8 hours later and its back to 0...
Should I just re-dose in the morning or every 12 hours until my Nitrites start to drop?

24 hours, don't be tempted to add more than necessary until those nitrites drop.
