And I need to do this even though I've used half my filter media and am only moving over a few fish?

Sorry, I thought you were doing a fishless cycle.
    Quote
Day 3 of tank set up, ammonia is now 2.0, nitrite 0.25, and nitrate is 40. Do I need to do anything or just leave it be as it's fishless?
Where did the ammonia (in the test) come from?
Look after your fish and the water, do regular water changes & maintenance, do your research and the hobby will be rewarding.
    All the best

To break up the constant questions a photo of the smaller of the two pieces of wood for the tank :) the other is still soaking in the sink as it's still floating.

It could be from the munchers dying off if they aren't getting fed. That means they will all be dead before you add fish.
If you use mature media you must either put fish in straight away, or feed with ammonia, but no more than 2ppm. ;) :)

Ahh that was my mistake then. I filled up with a hose and had to wait for temperature to get right. Is there anything I can be doing with what's left in my mature filter media like swapping it back or is the sponge I've taken from it useless now?

Ammonia 2.0, nitrite 0.50, nitrate 40. Only thing that's changed is nitrites gone up. What's next? :)

Let's see if I know what I'm talking about... I think that's fine, you wait and test in 24 hours. If ammonia has dropped to about 0.25 then dose up to 2. Someone will tell me if I'm wrong (I'm cycling my first tank just now).

Morning, no changes in water. Ammonia still 2.0, Nitrites 0.50 & Nitrates 40. I added filterstart. Anything else I can do?

Don't think so. It says it's for use when there's an ammonia or nitrite problem, so doubt it'd have ammonia in. It just says it's essential bacteria for when your filter is new or not functioning properly.
