Sponge Background
« on: November 19, 2014, 12:51:10 am »
Hello All, I have been given a Aqua One AR-980 aquarium, which needed a lot of TLC in it, it had a 3D sponge or soft foam background look really good, my worry is will algae grow on it loads.

Thanks Scott

Can you get a pic? £D backgrounds do take up a lot of space, and it's better, in smaller tanks anyway, to get rid and just have a plain background outside the tank.

Scott, how come you haven't got a username?

Is the real spongy to the feel Scott, i would never of thought that would be good for the tank as bacteria would grow bad in/on it, and cant be cleaned if ever needs be.
    I am probably wrong though??

Never seen one like that? Looks very realistic. Maybe it was designed for a vivarium etc?

Agree with this. That's just going to perish over time under water surely?

    It does eventually apparently.
That's why the advice is only to change it when it's falling apart.

I've seen similar backgrounds that were designed as a decorative filter.  Maybe that's what this is?
