Sigh...
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:15:49 pm »
Another batch of BN's on the way - rehoming them is going to be a total Bum. So far I've sorted out 3 places to potentially get rid of them. Local LFS, one in Bradford and somewhere in Manchester.

After the first batch, I noticed one of the females was looking a bit fat - full of eggs.

A couple days ago, I suspected the male had another batch of eggs held in the cave - I wasn't sure because of the way he positions his body. So I'm assuming the fry are 5 days old so far.

Making a log on this batches progress...

18 July
Wriggler at 5 days old. (bottom right of cave)

Egg sack still nice and whole.
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it...

find a maidenhead aqautics near you theyl always give you store credit for them thats where most of mine are going mate
There is a rumour going around that I have found God. I think this is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

Never knew they'd pop another batch 2 weeks after the first! My fault for removing most of the fry  I guess *rolleyes*. Never considered rehoming 100+ of them either - or getting someone to ferry me here and there.

Paul, I wish you were closer, you could've taken the whole load  *laugh*
    How big are yours now?

I've got an old marine pico lined up (rather than plastic tubs) as a grow on tank which should help, Just a matter of finding something to put it on.

dont sweat it mate im sure if u made a few calls to all the lfs/garden centre based fish stockists eg maidenhead/bow aqautics u can come to some kinda deal with them to cover costs if nothing else
mine are doing great thanks mate a few are big enough to be moved on now and ive taken the biggest out and put him in the firemouth tank now out of the 60-70 original fry that i had ive lost in total 9 which i dont thinks too bad considering the lfs told me when they tried to rear fry the way ive done it they lost all but 6 of them in the first few weeks so guess i must be doing something right lol

ill get some pics just as soon as im able to stand long enough to point a camera lol

All the eggs seem to have hatched - as far as I can see.
No new pictures, the male repositions everytime a lights shone in the tank.

    24 July
Managed to get these pictures at 5am in the morning.

All the fry seem to have digested their egg sacs (about 11 days old)
I've guessimated over 100 - in addition to the 60 I've already got - again plenty of albinos.

Looking for a way to give the adults a break and perhaps add some fish to keep numbers in reasonable control... *bye3*

    Fry leave the cave!

You can tell the difference between the older fry and these ones.
    They're now approximately 8mm long.
