1 foot pleco
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:47:55 pm »
well got him/her home saftly. poor guy was stuck in a small tank at the wrong temp. but never-mind, im glad to have re-homed him, it seems very happy going from one end to the other, its funny watching the other fish check him out. he was in one corner and all the fish even the shark which always stays hidden came to see,

still i know he/shes a sail fin but id like to try and find out if its a he or she and confirm its proper line of species.one was suggested but i cant see any like him unless its becasue he was in a small tank unable to develop his/hers weight and colour

some pics

Maybe Pterygoplichthys pardalis?  We need Scatz to have a look to give you a firm ID I think.

Peas, lettuce, courgette, yam, potato, pepper, prawns they can also eat pieces of fish when they are larger.  Wafers are OK too, they eat algae when they are young but soon grow out of it.

Hayley, you seem to be on top form as usual, definately the right strain, I'd happily confirm it to be a Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps now I've seen a better picture.

its not P. Gibbiceps, its either P. Pardalis or p. disjunctivus, the only real way to tell the 2 apart is from the pattern on the stomach, P.pardalis will be spotted, while P.disjunctivus will have a reticulated pattern.
either way, they are basically the same fish and i dare say most P.disjunctivus out there will be labelled as pardalis anyway
