Really useful thread. How do I "sticky" it. I want to be able to refer back when I have forgotten all the good advice! *blink*

Always make sure there is no small gaps behind filters, ive had a few fish stuck with 2 different types of filter, ive had to block gaps with filter foam. Done the same with my heater with a guard on it gaps not big enough for a fish but poss would try squeeze through! Doesnt look great but fish safety first!

Great thread. Sometimes it is better to learn from other peoples mistakes.

Great thread. There is  so much out there on offer most of it commercial in some way. Like the advise you may get with buying the filter is to start swapping and changing at two weeks already. In fairness the staff at the shop did say there is no need for that. The actual experience from other people is most valuable !

I thought I would add to this after my mistake today.
If your filter stops,  clean out the impeller. Today I panicked and bought a new one when my old one just needed a clean.
On the bright side I seen wile in the lfs,  a gravel pump exactly the same as mine for £7. I prayed £1.99 for mine on ebay.

    Great post

I really like tip number 10 because in the past I have been guilty of almost forgetting the beauty of the Aquarium.  We all sit staring at the TV, and as you say, turn the TV off once in a while and remember why you wanted an aquarium in the first place.

Its great to stare at, chill out and relax :)
