Acid's First Tank - Betta Fish

Hi everyone,

I've been stalking around the site for a few weeks and I thought it was time to post a tank log.

I have a Fluval...uh something, I'm not sure what it's called. It's kind of fancy, I wasn't going to get this version originally, but it just so happened that on payday in March someone posted one second hand on eBay. Thinking it was fate I snatched it up.

It's 34L and I am currently only going to be stocking it with a male Betta.

The "fancy" part of the fluval is the remote lighting.
You can change the colour and even make it cycle through colours. There is also an option to make it flash like lightning but that's weird and sort of painful to look at.

If you look below, it's just an example of the lighting changed to purple. The downside to it is if you want the light to be, yaknow, bright then the colour stops showing.

Looks good although the Anubias you have in there shouldn't have the roots planted as they'll eventually rot away!  Ideally, they need to be attached to wood/rock

Oh, thanks! I read something that said they'd be fine just put into my gravel. What would you recommend using to attach them to rocks/wood?

You can attach them with something like fishing line or sewing thread wound around their roots & the wood. I've used cotton thread in the past, but found it breaks in a couple of weeks underwater. So, for my latest plants I've used invisible sewing thread which is made of nylon & I'm hoping it won't deteriorate before the roots anchor themselves to the wood.

Or just spot glue with Superglue.
Don't use too much though or the roots can't "breathe".
I'd also get some cryptocoryne wendtii, dead easy, and the betta will rest on the leaves.

Quick update for y'all

My tank has cycled and I'm waiting for my fish! The LFS I'm using is going to get back to me this Tuesday to let me know if they've found what I want.

I'm still adding ammonia to my tank to make sure the bacteria doesn't starve while I'm waiting.

I've bought myself another, larger piece of wood for the tank since the one I currently have wasn't 100% what I want. I also have some fishing line for my plants and I'm looking forward to getting it all sorted.

When it's done I'll post pics :D

Did you manage to cycle it in just a week? What are your secrets???

Or were you cycling it before you started this thread?

Love the tank though. It's really nice and well 'scaped'. What colour betta are you looking for?
