Identification please?
« on: October 26, 2017, 08:57:13 am »
I just got my assorted discus and was just wondering what they are. I know one is a melon (not in a photo) and there is a golden one but he didn't want to come out for the photo. But these ones I managed to take a nice pic of. They seem to be all the same kind.
Could someone shed some light please?

    Hi, they are striped turquoise.
Top right on the group photo might be an altum turquoise due to its straight pattern.
Nice looking juveniles, can I ask who you got these from?

Here is the one that's suppose to be a golden dragon apparently.

I WOULD GUESS THEM TO BE YOUR BROWNS. I USED TO IMPORT THEM OUT OF PARU AND THAT'S WHAT  THE WILD ONES LOOKED LIKE.

    That's reassuring, thanks.
You can never tell these days. Only because a seller claims it's something doesn't mean it's not something else =)

That’s not a wild or brown based. That has a pigeon base. You can see a chequerboard pattern.

The gold one in last two photos is suppose to be a "golden dragon" and it has peppering on his head so must be a pigeon in him and the other that suppose to be brown are definitely not wild..nor are they brown in colour but I hear tetra bits can make discus orange so maybe that will give them more brownish look I was looking for =)

One of the "browns" has awesome red scribbles on him so I would lean towards it being a turk. The others have blue markings on their heads and some blue  scribbles on body and red only on dorsal and anal fins.
I think there is only one that has no scribbles at all on his body but still has red and blue fins.

They are all awesome looking but it would be nice to know what you have =)

And yes, I know the glass is badly scratched. It's an old, used tank. I'm getting a new one next month =)

I'm not a discus expert like you. All I'm saying is the fish I imported wild, over 40 years ago looked like that! They had red dots and blue and green  fins and the people that collected them called them browns or if they had a lot of color they called them blues or greens!
