Where can I get Pitbull Pleco?
« on: November 07, 2017, 06:54:09 pm »
Hi,
I just try to buy Pitbull Pleco - but I can't find them in any fish shop. I know since 2011 there is a law that do not allow to export them from Brasil but I've heard that since then a number of shops breed them by themself.
Could anybody give me e hint where or how can I get it. (I live in Edinburgh)

Thanks!

These are the bigger otos and are relatively rare in the hobby.
If anywhere was breeding them, somewhere in Scotland with it's soft water would be the place! ;) :)
There are keepers on this page, but I don't know whether they have been bred or not. Otos are one of the harder types to breed in captivity.

Look on advertising sites like Gumtree. Possible there is one on there but unlikely

Is it this particular species you're after for a biotope, or would any smallish similar fish do? I've found 'giant otos' (Hypoptopoma species) to be excellent algae eaters of similar size and requirements, and less uncommon in shops.
