Yes, black oto (hisonotus notatus) now you mention it, never seen them before (I really must get up to Wharf at some stage).
Sent from my PC as I still don't understand the the logic for mobile internet usage ;) *grin*

I was cheekily hoping they may have some Zebra Otos at a bargain price...  No such luck, unsurprisingly...   *grin*

They are a bit nice, eh Stephen...  but to be fair, the most commonly seen Vittatus are too...  But, at £12 per fish plus £12 shipping, there are no plans for Zebra Otos at Cookie Towers either...

One or two of you may know of my tank woes lately, with stalled plant growth which in turn looked to open the door to some serious algae issues...  I did have some Hygrophila Costata which just plain died on me, and there were a few of them too...!!!  All the symptoms appeared to be of the similar looking signs of nitrogen and potassium deficiencies...  Easy enough to check nitrogen levels, but potassium is a lot trickier to check...  Based on my assumptions, I came close to buying some potassium supplement...  Instead, I got hold of an "Easy-Life" Potassium Test Kit and finally got around to doing the test today...  Results are 20ppm, which is pretty much spot on really...  Glad I didn't just buy potassium and start dumping it in the tank now...!!!  *applause*

My hygrophila did the same TC, it just died off slowly until nothing was left.
    Tank looks good though :)

Ironically, they say they're an easy plant to keep, but mine flourished for a while and then eventually started looking malnourished and came under attack from algae...  no matter what I did, they just plain refused to recover and so I ended up just taking them all out and replacing them with plants that tend to do ok in my water, mostly different varieties of Echinodorus...

When I had them a couple of years ago they were called red onion nerites.
I still think they look quite like tyretrack (or as the Americans call them tire track) nerites......
They are nice patterns though. *grin*
