Cysts on pleco
« on: January 22, 2018, 05:56:46 pm »
Hi

Any advice on what's wrong with my pleco?

His been acting a bit strange recently and now he's extremely poorly.

I've noticed a few cysts on him as visible in the pictures.

Cheers

Dan

What are the water parameters (include temp, ph and hardness with the normal ammonia/nitrite/nitrate please), what else is in the tank, does the heater have a guard, what's the diet?

    78f
    0 ammonia
    0 nitrite
    +100 nitrates

I've been working to get my nitrates down but have just found out my tap water is about 50ppm :(

Not sure on the hardness but I'll test the PH tonight.

No guard on the heater but it's close to one of the filters so should be a good flow of water around it

Sorry, missed that. It's in with mollies, guppies and sword tails.

Feed them tropical fish flakes, some sort of bottom feeder tablets and courgette.

It's a bit warm in there, I'd turn it down to around 73/74F.
Nitrates shouldn't bee too much of a problem, certainly not short-term. Around 50ppm will be ok long-term.
    Food looks ok.
I would get a guard for the heater, they could be from burns. Does he have a large bump on his head besides the bristles?
Can you get a side-on pic?

    Cheers.

Unfortunately he died. I'd love to know why though :(

I'll drop the water temperature a few degrees.
