Baby Alert
« on: February 17, 2018, 06:03:44 pm »
Hi folks. Sorry to seem dull but I can't work this out.

I have a standard plesostomus at about 5 inches long who has taken up residence in a hollow castle. I also have another breed of sucker which is very different looking but i dont know the breed.

The plec has spawned 180ish fry but I didn't think these fish would cross breed?

Please help

Dale

Is it possible that they are 2 different colour morphs of a Bristlenose Plec? 5 inches is large for a BN but not unheard of. A common plec isn't going to breed at that size or in an aquarium. Photo's would be good to ID them.

    What colour are they both?

Hi sonic and thanks for the reply.  Perhaps I should elaborate. I originally thought the fry were from my pair or hartwigi cichlid. I removed all the fry bar 1 that I couldn't catch to a breeding tank.

Being inexperienced unfortunately they all died but I have just found the remaining 1 I could nt catch in my tank.
This little beauty is approximately 2 cms long.

1 of the parents is identical to this 1

It has the markings of a BN but is slightly different in colour. Does one of the adults have bristles along its lip and nose? Do you have photos of the adults?

Is the other one an orange/red colour?

It has the markings of a BN Plec, colour is slightly different but if both parents are different types then it can throw out plain browns and other slight variations. It is a nice colour.

I'll try and get some pics but they stay in the castle most of the time. Thanks for the help.  I think the one I don't recognise has little bristles
