I'd stick to comets or standard goldies, no matter how much you like the fancies.
Could the "pimple" be the breeding spots they get (trying to look on the bright side)?

Here's a thought though.....if "Sharky" is the only one without problems, maybe he's carrying pathogens that the fancies can't cope with....???

I'm not inspired by comets, that's the problem :-( Also, I think my tank would be too small for single tailed. I think I am probably drawn to fish that naturally have more issues

Hm that's an interesting point... Or maybe also Sharky is "more normal" compared to other breeds (he is closer to carassius), so maybe is more resilient...

But if it is internal bacteria, is it contagious?
