ill Cory
« on: April 26, 2018, 09:11:49 pm »
Can anyone help. My Cory seems unwell, I thought he was a goner days ago but still seems to be breathing. Anything I can do to help? He shows no sign of illness other than laid on his side, all the other fish are all healthy. No deaths in the tank for 6+ months. Had the corys for years so they are established in the tank. The tank is 50% cleaned once a week.

 Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Matt

Doesn't look good, but no red anywhere.
    What's the ph/hardness/temperature/tankmates/diet?
Melafix is good in case he's just stressed.

I've had this happen over the years with a few different breeds of Cory.

Think they can be pretty prone to swim bladder related diseases.

Have you carried out a test on your water parameters? Could be worth doing a few big water changes over a few days.

I don’t have all the test kits for water parameters. Usually when I have got a test done at a pet shop it’s slightly acidic due to my water around here. Temp is 24 degrees. I do 50% water change a week which I have just done now. I have also increased the amount of time the air pump is on to try help. Hopefully this may help but time will tell

Acidic is good for corys, you can also check whether it's soft (also good for corys) on your supplier's website.
24C is a little warm for for peppers, but not by too much, they prefer it around 22C.
Is there any red on the body?

I believe my water is hard water. I can lower the temp but would that be ok for the rest of the fish: angel fish, cardinal tetras, Rosie barbs?
There is no red on the Cory but he is still on his side.

The barbs would like a lower temp, but the angels and cardinals won't.
    Have you tried Melafix yet?
