Jack's 60L Aquarium
« on: May 13, 2018, 12:30:10 pm »
Hello all!  *2116*

So today I will start my tank log and try keep this log updated the best I can providing I'm not working night shift.

So currently my aquarium has been set up a while and was fishless cycled and recently i Added 7 Cherry Barbs to the tank.

I have a couple lovely bog wood logs and a cave for hiding with some fake plants. I have kept real plants in the past but not sure I will have the time to maintain them with work commitments.

My plans for once he Barbs are settled in are either;

1. Bump up to 12 Cherry Barbs and add a center piece fish such as a Honey Gourami
2. Stay at 7 Cherry Barbs and add 12 Neon Tetras.

Pictures (I'm terrible at pictures so please exscuse)

Are you in a soft water area ?
If yes then maybe some smaller corydoras for the bottom area such as 5 x Salt and Pepper Cory (Corydoras habrosus).

Look after your fish and the water, do regular water changes & maintenance, do your research and the hobby will be rewarding.

Yes the water is very soft in my area.

They look lovely, would I be better off with 12x Cherry Barbs and like 5 of those?

Although i am looking to have a very colourful tank so thats why i was thinking Neons

Maybe try to get 5 x small cory (they need to be in a group of 5+) and make up with some neon tetra or maybe small pencilfish such as Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) which will hang around the top half of the tank water. This will give activity in all parts of the tank, top, middle & bottom. Just a thought.

I'm not sure about the pencil fish seeing as the Cherry Barbs will already bring that kind of red to the tank. That's why i thought maybe Neons would be nice to bring that lovely blue off them into the community

Neons are nice and would be compatible to the water temperature for Cherry barbs and the corydoras (22/23C)

I think my plan moving forward with this Aquarium is:

    7x Cherry Barbs
    12x Neon Tetras

I also want to slowly bring some live plants in, like stated earlier i have demanding work commitments sometimes so I think i just want to start with some moss to grow around my bogwood. I kept plants in the past with a wide variety of them but always found them to take some time to maintain during water changes etc.

If you go for any of the "dwarf" corys, get at least 8, they feel safer in bigger groups.
They will also shoal with tetra when they feel like it. :)

What would be q good Cory for soft water in a 60L

If I decide to add cories I'll be bringing the Neons down to 8

Any of the corys are fine in a 60l.
You could still have the cherries, neons and corys (either pygmeus, hastatus or habrosus) at the numbers you want. ;)

So 7x cherry barbs and 12x Neon Tetras would be fine with 6-8 corys? I don't want to overstock

Your 60l tank is a total SNAP with mine!! ☺️

In my 60l I had 7 cherry barbs, 11 green neons (only asked for 9....ended up with 11!) and 5 c.habrosus

Had to move the corys to my new guppy tank though as temp was a tad high for them once I got my blue rams.
