pH is pH7.4 ;)

I would keep the lights on for a maximum of 8 hours a day and for when you are at home.
No need to have the lights on if you are usually not at home for some hours (work or other commitments).
The lights are only there for your enjoyment of the fish.
I would also recommend a digital timer if you're not already using one ;)
Look after your fish and the water, do regular water changes & maintenance, do your research and the hobby will be rewarding.
All the best
Stephen

Thanks, I think I will have the lights go off for a few hours during the day when I am at work. I have a normal timer on the lights right now

Think my M:F ratio is changing  *mock* One of the 'females' was very very small when i bought them, looked very young even for selling but in the last day or so is getting more cherry coloured, so i think i may have 3M:4F

Been a while, all fish are doing great and tank is nice and healthy.

    Question I have is,

On Tuesday I leave to work away for 2 weeks, I will be home on the weekend in between for my Girlfriends parents anniversary party so I am not sure i will be able to clean the tank when im home.

Would it be ok for the tank if i do a 60% water change the night before I leave for tide the tank over till i return from working away?

Hello all and happy New year!

It's been a while since I was on here due to work and family commitments.
Update for the tank is all is well although I lost 2 fish. One was very old I'd had many years and the other seem to vanish. Not under and decorations, in the filter or outside the tank (unless it jumped during cleaning and the dog got it)

So currently 5 cherry barbs are in place very healthy.
Current plan this weekend after work is to head for dobbies and buy 8 neon tetra.

No pictures this time but hopefully shortly.

Today is the day (if they have stock) that the neons will be bought.

In a fee weeks I plan on maybe adding something else. Ideally I would like to add an algae eater. What would be a good one for a 60L

Otos would be fine in your tank with your nice soft water.
Remember that they are fragile though and need a good amount of algae for them to settle.

Do they like to be kept in groups or can they be happily kept alone?

Neons are doing well not hiding much and ate well today.
    Quick question is,
I got a 0.25ppm ammonia (expected from additional fish) would the fish be ok to leave till tomorrow night for a small water change or just do it today as i don't want to stress the new fish too much?

Might be worth doing a small change or adding a dose of seachem prime if you have it on hand. Just make sure you dose enough for the entire tank volume it will help detoxify any ammonia for the next 24hours.

Thanks, i don't have seachem so I just done a small 10% water change. Few of the neons are hiding a bit stressed but they should be ok soon.
