Thanks guys.
The Tetras are settling in a bit now. They dont mind the cichlids at all and are quite happy to sit right next to them.
Its me that seems to send them rushing for cover.
I have some tall cover i think in there(see pic) and thats were they run when startled.
I have the tank set at 27
Although the chocolates are tiny, the geo's dont mind them and dont chase them off like they do with each other.
Hopefully it wont be too many months before the chocolates start to get a bit bigger.

Have added some new fish recently
Have 4 Rotkeil Sev's
2 Mouth brooding Sev's (thats all the shop had in terms of what they were)
1 Golden Sev
All the fish are growing quite fast as the pics will show.
Lost 1 of the tetras MIA but the rest are doing fine.

Both the Heros liberifer & Heros severus were classed as mouthbrooders and both have vertical stripes but fish do get re-classed quite quickly and I believe the Heros liberifer is the only one now classed as a mouthbrooder. (I may be wrong).
Those Yellow-tailed Congo Tetra are lovely

Thanks Guys
Heros liberifer is what i was thinking as well from pics i have seen liberfer was the closest match...Boy 1 is a fast grower as well. Already largest in aquarium. Quite docile though and even after settling in it is by no means boss.
Whilst I'm Here.
A couple of my Geo Tapios have paired up.
I spotted them together, (which never happens as they all seem to want to chase each other away) guarding a rock.
Sure enough there were a few eggs attached. Not many 10-15ish and within a few hours they were all gone.
''Better luck next time'' i thought.
Well today, a week later, i see them at the front of the tank with what look like rubbish bits swerling underneath them.
I took a closer look and WOW... I see over 50 fry dancing around under their parents.
By the time i grabbed my cam and quickly filmed most had been scooped up by the pair for protection.
But i did get a small clip of the last being scooped up.

Also a couple of Chocolates seem to be pairing up and cleaning a large rock so there may be more news soon

Hi there
Time for an update to whats been going on.
The fish are growing quite fast and the tank looks a lot more impressive now.
Have had many attempts for breed in the tank over the last 4 months, but only a few have resulted in fry hatching. Usually the parents eat the eggs before hatching.
I think this this due to the number of competitors in the tank.
A pair of the Geophagus Tapios spawn regularly and I have 3 of the chocolates(Temporalis) that spawn regularly. I say 3 because the male alternates his mating between 2 females, so he's on demand every other week.
I am thinking i will need to chose 4-5 fish to re-home soon and may also move the 9 yellow tails on.
I will keep the pair of Tapios and a pair of Temporalis and re-home the others.
This may take some stress away from the mating pairs that i have.
I have been changing 50% of the water out every week, and i invested in a filter filled with A520 strong-base anion resin to remove any nitrate from the tap water. Using this i have the nitrate down to 10ppm between water changes.
Good piece of kit if any of you need to to have nitrate free water at normal flow rates, Its the only thing that works.
Here are a few pics of how the aquarium looks today.
Note the Temporalis guarding the eggs on the vertical stone.

Hi all,
Been a while since i posted, so i thought i would do a quick update on whats new and how the aquarium was going.
Have added LED lighting recently and cant understand why i waited so long. Must have been the cost when i originally looked into getting them.
My picture taking skills have not improved, but you get the idea.
Current stock:
2 Hypselecara temporalis (chocolate)
4 Geophagus tapajos (redheaded geo's)
and new in
1 Andinoacara rivulatus (green terror)
1 Rocio octofasciata (jack dempsey)
1 Vieja melanura (redhead cichlid)
will have to see if they can get on as they grow.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
