What’s the best way to rehome fish?
« on: June 04, 2019, 09:14:49 am »
Hi, I have just come here after not visiting for a while to research rehoming my fish.
I have decided to sell my second tank, a 4ft Rio and I think it’s probably better to rehome the fish first ie making sure it’s someone who actually wants the fish not looking to use the tank for some other fish.
I notice most people here are advertising fish free to good home, which I was thinking of doing too....but you wouldn’t think of rehoming a dog or a cat free, would you?
So I’m asking what people think.
Is advertising them free here ok, but you wouldn’t use gumtree etc? But I’d use gumtree to sell the tank.

What fish are you thinking of rehoming?

When I re-homed my fish I started to list them on this forum.
Then due to no responses I listed them on http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk.
The responses were few, although I sold all my corydoras to a breeder within an hour of listing them.
I ended up selling the majority to a Maidenhead Aquatics store 65 miles away.
Maidenhead Aquatics will often buy them for about 1/3 of the retail value but that depends on the fish species.

    Hope it helps

Hi, I have had a look at aquarist, it’s awkward to use searching on single counties. I’m in a low population area, not a city. Nobody using it round here.
I wouldn’t trust Maidenhead. Nearest one has very grubby conditions.  Though that’s a thought, there is an independent shop I would trust about an hour and a quarter away.
    I have
    2 discus different but paired
Cory catfish. I did think they were all sterbai, but not sure on close inspection. Mostly sterbai!
    Small shoal of cardinal tetras.
