Recommendations in Essex ?

I waas very lucky to have a brilliant LFS for many years but the owner retired and I've not found anywhere decent since. Ended up at Maindenhead along the A127 which frankly had too many dead fish in their tanks and Swallow which looked much the same - a poor effort compared to many years ago. I don't mind travelling a bit for the right pace but is there any ???
