They should be fine the water change will do them more good than the ammonia, it might be worth leaving the light out to help let them settle down.

Fish seem all good today. Neons are being rather playful coming up to the glass so I think they are settling in more now. 1 or 2 of them are still timid hiding in the back but I'm sure over time they will be more adventurous.

Glad they’re starting to settle. Tank looks great!

Bloodworms were on the menu today (all fish went wild as expected
)neon colours are looking more vibrant day by day.
I was thinking maybe adding a couple moss balls as I don't have live plants (or have time to maintain them) however I though they could maybe benefit the tank a little.

Moss balls are great if you have shrimp, as they act almost like an internal filter sponge and catch bits of food and stuff. If you don't have shrimp or "grazing" fish, then it may just create a spot in your tank where rubbish collects.
If you like the look of them, then go for it.
Basic live plants take very little looking after if you have the water quality where you want it, a little trim now and then. You certainly don't need to go full Co2 and Alan Titchmarsh.

Yeh I might pass on them cause i don't think I'll be adding any shrimp.
I don't really have a whole lot of room to place them as decor

So it's been a while...or a year
Not really changed much over this time except a couple plants. Recently had some fin rot riddling the tank out of nowhere and went down the 4 cherry barbs and 5 neon's now. Not great but glad most survived.
Been thinking about making some big changed to the tank as i now have plenty time, with everything going on I'm laid off work for 12 weeks min.
So my plan was to change out the sand in my tank as its no longer working for me and i want a change. With me having neon's, i want to change to black gravel. I think the contrast of the black gravel to the neon colour, and the bright plants will really make the tank pop!
I have had black sand in the past but i wasn't a fan of it and i've seen a few tanks with neon's and black gravel and it really looks good.

Really thinking about going ahead with the substrate change. Looking to buy this gravel. Thoughts?
