Another newbie - bristlenose catfish question
« on: January 22, 2020, 09:12:05 am »
Good morning,

We have a 60L Aquael Hexaset tank, with about a dozen mollys/danios and 2 bristle nose pleco. I believe them to be 1x male and 1x female, due to the length of their whiskers. They tend to chase each other off from food when I put algea wafers in, so I assumed they lived separate lives, but this morning things have changed... They've carved out a sort of crater in the gravel next to the males favourite home (a gator skull) and they've been latched on to each other for a little while, but mostly at the head end. I can't tell if he's trying to murder her, or get her pregnant.

1) Are they just doing what nature calls?
2) What's the gestation period if she IS pregnant?
3) Anything I need to do with the eggs if I see any?
4) Anything I need to do with the hatchlings?
5) Does culpable homicide exist in the world of tropical fish?
