Java fern looking old and tired

Hi ,thinking of starting again with my old Java fern even the new plant let’s are looking poor. My question is if I cut all the leaves back to the rhizome would it grow back or should I just buy new and feed at regular intervals which I have not been doing thinking Java didn’t need it, lightings is juwel led  tank Rio 240 . Thank for all replies.

    You should remove the dead leaves, but using Co2 is the best option for healthy plants.

    If you cut it back you’ll be waiting a long time, as it’s very slow growing. As such it also doesn’t need much food.

    It’s also a low light plant that won’t do well in bright lighting. And it prefers well oxygenated water, so CO2 won’t help it.
