Its sumatran driftwood, i think i got it from this guy on the link below, i was actaully thinking it was this that caused the low ph? But i like it so i'm not taking it out lol.

One of my guppies died last night, had been fine all day then about 9ish i noticed it swimming funny, then came down to check on it again about 10:30 and it had gone
All the other fish seem fine, so it may of just been its "time" Do you think the low ph could of had something to do with it? Although this morning the ph had gone up to 6.4 of its own accord.
I left tap water out for 24 hours and the result was about the same as what it comes out the tap at 6.8.

Is your water quite soft? I ask because I had problems with dropping ph in one of my tanks, it was only the one tank, and it was because of wood just like that. My water is really soft though.
I remedied it by putting a few tablespoons of coral sand in some tights in the filter

I think it is soft, yes. I'm not sure where to get coral sand from. I asked at
[email protected]
and my lfs but neither had it.

Well after being stable for nearly a week, ph has started to go back down
I've taken the driftwood out to see if that helps. Shame cos i really like it.

The description "Sumatran driftwood" does not fill me with confidence, could be anything really and it is not really Driftwood, it is collected from the (remnants) forest and not from the beach, probably the crap left behind after deforestation to plant Palm Oil thus making the Sumatran Tiger and other species homeless, should be banned.

Oh no, i've just accidently killed a rcs :(And it had eggs in it too. So gutted. Was just moving a plant to fit new filter in and i accidently dropped the plant on it (it has a stone on it to weight it down)
On another note, i've put the fluval 4 in this tank (i got the filter with new big tank) but thought i'd put it in small tank to start bacteria colony off. Is this ok? The guppies seem to love playing in the water gush (can't think of right word) Its ponting to the nearest wall so the flow (thats the word!) isn't going all over the tank.
