The praecox are not much bigger than the harlequins to be honest.  I've taken loads of pics but they are way too fast for me (and my camera's not the best) so all blurry and now my memory card is full so need to delete some. grrr

Lost a guppy last night  *bye3*  Not sure why,
    ph 6.4
ammonia just over 0.00 (best its been for ages)
    Nitrites 0ppm
    Nitrates 5ppm
Couldn't see any damage to him, so must just of been 'his time'

On a brighter note, I'm getting 4 dalmation mollys tomorrow  *grin*  Hoping they will be OK in my ph, but if not I've got a back up tank and I'm thinking of using proper ph if I need to.

no need to use pH up or down grrr lol, when you get the molly test the bag water and your tank pH, then over the hours add about 5-10ml every 5-10 mins of tank water to the bag till they match up, if its loads different it could take days lol
then don't add the bag water to your tank, just net the fish and add them, no bag water as they have been in transit then in the bag for a lifetime it will be well polluted :)

I'm getting them from someone off here, so confident the water will be fine, though routine will mean I don't add the water anyhow.
Was going to do the drip method, but I believe you need a one way valve, which I don't have.
I'm in all day tomorrow so it can take as long as it takes, there's no rush.

Oh and I meant if they don't do well in my ph then I will set my smaller tank up for them and use the ph up stuff in that one and add some aquarium salt to make them more comfortable. So there's a back up plan I needed.

So for the 1st time in 8 weeks or so my ph has gone UP unfortunately so has ammonia after 3/4 days of finally being 0

    Ph 6.6
    Ammonia 0.50
    Nitrite 0
Not done nitrates as they are never high and doing a water change later anyhow.

I did leave a bit courgette in there for the plecos so maybe that made the ammonia go up?

My cloudy water is almost all clear now :)  Thinking of going to get some cardinal tetras but putting them in my smaller tank for a few weeks to Q them.
Oh and i could only see 6 cherry barbs yesterday, but i think i've spotted them all today (they're so fast)  Still not seen all the shrimp though :(

More research by me and by adding an airstone and therefore oxygen, its is making my ph higher as oxygen is driving off the carbon dioxide gases in the water.  Why did no-one tell me this?? lol  Would of added an airstone ages ago if i knew  *d'oh*

... oxygen is driving off the carbon dioxide ...

Do you have a link please, Z?

In a planted tank, an airstone creates extra water movement that improves outgassing of excess CO2 at night which, in turn, prevents a pH drop in very soft water.  If you've found a reference proving that dissolved oxygen directly displaces dissolved carbon dioxide I'd love to read it.   Thanks.

Well it was just on another forum.  I just googled "does increasing oxygen raise ph."

    http://forum.simplydiscus.com/archive/index.php/t-61438.html

I just took it at face value as it sort of made sense after what i'd experienced the past few days.  Maybe i'm just reading it wrong?
