Bolivian rams with shrimp
« on: October 31, 2012, 12:39:44 pm »
Most of the advice I'm finding on the Internet says Bolivian rams would be too lazy to eat shrimps providing there big enough to not fit in there mouths. How accurate is this, and does anybody keep them with shrimps. I'm think amano's, or cherrys. Cheers,Ben.

Cichlids like shrimp to eat. If they don't eat them whole, they're likely to do it bit-by-bit. Bolivians may be one of the most chilled cichlids, but they aren't that lazy when it comes to food.

So it probably won't work. That's a shame, I'd of liked some shrimp.

I had a large breeding colony of ghost shrimp in my tank, the females were the size of the rams haha, believe me, they were completely unharmed by the rams. Only reason they are gone now was because my fiance didnt like that you could see their insides moving about and the bright green eggs :/
my friend who has them adores them though.

Cherry shrimp same color as bloodworm, to most fish this equals good,

I was unable to keep shrimp with my rummynose tetras or Apistos
But they lived fine with my pair of 7 inch Heros efasciatus,
    Go figure

If you get a good colony of shrimp first and have plants they can hide in you may be able to get a balance of shrimp breeding quicker than they can be eaten.

I have Agazzis in with a cherry shrimp like this

I'm going to avoid it I think, I've had no fish keeping luck of late, so I'm going to do everything by the book from now on. Just means I'll have to buy more tanks:)

Well I've wanted another tank for months, I've just not got around to it, and I'm of work at the moment so I didn't want to get another one to add to the maintenance. But when I go back to work after Christmas I think there will be another tank. I'd like 60 so I could breed them properly. That's the dream

Pop a piece of cuttlefish in and they'll get the calcium from that (break up a big one, it'll last ages then).

Do they eat my plants, I don't want another episode of that again. Apple snails destroyed my tank.  I shall look see what they haves later.
