The plan is to start with corydoras' as they are my favourite fish at the moment. The tank is 24x12x14 inches. I am in need of a filter, so would a sponge filter like this be what I need for a breeding set up?

Also I will obviously need an air pump, so can anybody recommend a quiet one?
Will I need anything else. I'll be fishless cycling the tank which I know about.

I have sponge filters like that they're very good, I tend to use two, one at either end of the tank, run off one Sera air pump which is very quiet.
You could also do with a nice big clump of moss, my corys go nuts through it when they're spawning & usually lay on the glass right by it or even in it

I have Java in one tank, willow in another, a mix of both in another, don't think it matters which kind, Java's probably easier to get

I'll just get some java. I have a huge lump of bogwood I want in the tank as well just so it looks good as well. That will be fine won't it?

I have bogwood in my tanks, as long as there's plenty of swimming space they'll be fine

Yeah loads of swimming space still. Could I use a internal like a fluval U2 or something with a pair of tights over it?

Yes you can, just make sure the flow isn't too strong when the eggs start to hatch.
One of my aspidoras always lays her eggs on the filter intake, so it has to get switched off which is why I use sponge filters as well

Ive just ordered a fluval u2, sera air pump, sponge filter, ammonia and syringes. I think i have everything else. I'll order some moss in a few days as i dont want it arriving whilst im away. Also picked up a couple nerite snails today. Been looking for them for an age.

Just got myself two new sterbais aswell. Must stop spending money now. I'll put a photo of them from above in about an hour and hopefully someone will be able to sex them for me.

Could be - bottom is female. Top one needs feeding up, a little underweight.

All the filters have arrived. My better half has whinged about the noise of the air pump so I need to work out a way of controlling the noise of that. Topped ammonia up the 4ppm. I think that's right. I should of read it first.

Anyway just a tip for others about to start of Fishless cycle - do not sniff the ammonia bottle pheeeeeewyyyy!
