Thanks a lot guys. I'm awaiting conformation on the pleco group and have also posted on rare aquatics fb page. Ill be back with answers as soon as I get a definite confirmation lol. Fingers crossed I've picked up a rare gem. If not I still love it either way.

I think it's a young gibby. The lighting on the pic is possibly hiding a lot of the markings.

Cheers. Well asking about people are still confused as the colour pattern is that of a gibby but the dorsal and pecs etc are completely different. Ill post another pic up to show

sorry, it's a skinny looking gibby to me, common at best. need a photo with its dorsal fin up to be 100%.

more than 10 rays (spines) in the dorsal fin means its of the same family as a gibby, the rest is down to appearance, size, fins etc.
oh, and gibby's get massive, where most other plecs don't

I can see why you doubted it from the pic! As did I, but upon closer inspection I see that mine has a similar colouration but a lot darker! Plus the dorsal isn't a sailfin type dorsal, more spiney like a freshwater perch. And the pecs and cordal fin the same.

And I've got enough room in the tank for him

- I've got an L001 L022 goldspot in there too. (Nice common plec) at about 10/11 inch. Lovely fish. Ill be keeping an eye out on the pair of them as the gibby grows mind you. They seem fine for now
