Have you topped up to 2ppm?
What's the nitrite reading now?
It may be worth testing the nitrates (compare with the tap nitrates) just to see exactly where we are. I think it's just behaving normally myself, instead of being awkward..... *grin*
Sent from my PC as I still don't understand the the logic for mobile internet usage ;) *grin*

    Thanks for reply Ian

    Today's tests show
    Ammonia. 0ppm
    Nitrite. 0ppm
Nitrate. 80ppm (closest but above. Defo not 160)
Previous test of tap water stood for 24hrs have shown nitrate of 40ppm

Just topped ammonia up to 2.0ppm.

As this is all new to me I keep thinking something is going wrong or stalled, I'm sure you understand.
I'm a nervous newbie *blink* roflmao

    Thanks

    Hi everyone,

    Day9. 12/11

    Ammonia. 0ppm
    Nitrite. 0ppm

    Topped ammonia up to 2.0ppm

    Day10. 13/11

    Ammonia. 0ppm
    Nitrite. 0ppm

    Topped ammonia up to 2.0ppm

That has been two full days where ammonia has zeroed in 24hrs
Is it possible that my tank has all but cycled in 10 days??
Seems too quick from what I have been reading about fishless cycle!
Has adding the tetra safestart speeded this up??

Any feedback and advice would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Paul

I think it's done, and the Safestart may well have helped it, it is one of the better additives.
Time for a big change and fish methinks! *grin*

    Excellent *grin*
I'll check all the parameters tonight and hopefully it's all good for fish *fish*.
Won't be able to get to lfs until the weekend so I'll keep an eye on water till then
Also water change will be done at weekend, how much would you suggest? Bearing in mind my tap water is around 40ppm nitrates. Any ideas what to do about that?
Is there anything I'm forgetting or should be doing?

    Thanks again  *cheers*

If you're not getting fish, then keep topping up to 2ppm.
I'd be inclined to do the water change and make sure it doesn't upset the bacteria as soon as......

Ok thanks mate I'll keep topping ammonia to 2ppm till I get the fish at weekend. I guess I stop 24hrs before fish?

How much of a water change do you think, 50% or more?
     Thanks
    Paul

As big a change as you can manage, then pop 1ppm of ammonia in and check after 12 hours, just to make sure everything's ok. :)
