I use a plastic pasta strainer to transfer otos. They don't get stuck.

i wish I had thought of that , good thinking

Other species. Corys can get stuck with their fins as well. Especially dorsal (spine in it).

I managed to catch my otos with a jug! Prob helped its a smallish tank

I always put a jug in and very slowly chase them into it. That works for me.
