No I don't think it caused them to die. You would have seen spots. It can be brought on by stress and given the previous deaths I think there is something serious going on in your tank.

Please don't add any more fish until you have it stable

Hi there. No I wont be adding any fish till I can get this thing sorted.
apart from this white spot problem could there be other problems?? All water checks have been comming up fine and no other visual signs are showing. Only thing thats changed is that there is a small amount of the hairy green algae. Any ideas?

I would buy a liquid test kit-try Amazon for a API one. Don't waste any of your money on the strip types.

You can then see for yourself what is going on-unfortunately most LFS diagnosis most of the time is it is "fine."

There are several good white spot meds and some ineffective ones.

Good ones include Esha Exit, Waterlife Protozin and Paraguard.

Note that some of these may have side effects on snails, shrimp, filter bacteria etc, and some need to be used in half doses with catfish, loaches, gouramis etc. They're strong enough to kill a nasty parasite so they are also strong enough to do harm to fish if over-dosed. Be careful! Ask here if you're not sure.

Another way of killing most ich is temperature - wind the heater up to 31C. But only if your fish can take it! Temps in the 27-29C range will just make it multiply faster :(

Certainly the neons would not like the higher temp. You don't have any especially sensitive fish so my gut feel would be to keep the temps as they are and use a full dose of meds. Get the meds in stock and hopefully someone else will chip in to confirm this is the right approach.

Go with Paul's recommendation and see what happens - you are certain it's whitespot?
