How long have you been away, and did anyone touch the tank while you were away?
    Sorry for your losses :(

2 weeks and got a friend to feed them twice so they'd be fine and so they wouldn't be over fed

Did you measure out the food?
    Have you tested the water?
    I suspect overfeeding and ammonia/nitrite spike(s).

I keep pearls and  cory and have never had any issue with them.  I've not kept rams, though I think they'd be fine too if they're the only cichlids at the bottom of the tank, e.g., I wouldn't get a pair of rams and a pair of apistos in that size tank.    Cory are very laid back and don't really bother other fish, and certainly the fish I have don't bother the cory, including my plec :)

Lemon tetras are cool with gourami, as long as there's more than 6 of them (the tetras, not gourami...... ;) )
