Ammonia is now down to 1. Nitrite is off the scale, what should I add in future? 1 or 2 ppm ammonia?
I'm just worried I'm building up an un-shiftable pile of nitrites.

1ppm until you can read the nitrite again.

So far this is the planned stocklist:

    2x Bolivian Ram (1m1f)
    6x Corydoras Trilineatus (mix)
    6x Corydoras Sterbai (mix)
8x Either Bleeding Heart, Columbian, Diamond, X-ray or Lemon Tetra

    Any suggestions for it?

My Roma 240 is rather more heavily stocked with:
    29 rummy-nose (2sp)
    26 Cory (3sp)
    10 Hatchets
    2 L244 plecos
And I'm about to add a group of medium-sized cichlids.
Aqadvisor would throw a fit but with lots of filtration and loads of plants my nitrate reading before water-change yesterday was less than 5ppm.

So, I would say add more of the shoaling species and a fancy pleco of some sort :)

My plan was to start off with these. And then add more later if I see something that I like in my LFS.

What kind of filtration do you have Paul? I only have a 306 so I can't go too crazy :P

Plecos! I'm keen on them - but have basically no knowledge. Can you point me towards a pleco?

    Criteria:
    - Not too expensive
    - Fairly hardy
    - Not impossible to feed
    - One that won't upset the plants
    - And get on with the other fish :)
    - One that doesn't get any bigger than 5 inches.
    - And not a bristlenose :P

    Thanks,
    Zac

    I'm ridiculously over-filtered with 3 big externals - 2 would be plenty. I have an APS1000, APS1400 and Eheim Pro3 350.

There are quite a lot of plecs that could meet your specification, especially if you were to consider 6" OK.
If you go to the planet catfish cat-e-log search, choose the family Loricariidae at the top and a size range of maybe 75-150mm, then at the bottom choose 100 results and 'order by keepers' then you will get an illustrated list of the 100 most popular.
You can click on the species name for more info on each.
Generally, the more popular ones are also the easier ones to keep!

L128 and L200 are lovely (my Orinoco and Lucyd's Bernard) - they are a little bigger than your limit but would be fine in a 4' tank.

    Water test:

    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: off the chart

So I topped up to 1ppm ammonia.

Also, I re-scaped the tank. I don't really like it though. How can it be improved?

I shuffled some crypts to the front and i looks much better. Thank :). Now the only eye-sore is that wall of amazon swords at the back. I'll do a bit more shuffling tommorrow.

    Hi all,
    Just did a test:
Ammonia: 0.25 (topped up to 1)
Nitrite: About 5ppm (using dilution method)

The hygrophila has almost reached the top of the tank. I trimmed it yesterday! :O
