The fry will produce enough to keep the amount of bacteria needed to keep the fry safe.

With regards to keeping another filter in a main tank, I know I am going to sound stupid now but if I don't ask I'll never know, does the filter need to be running for the bacteria to stay in the media?

Yes I think so as the bacteria need a flow of oxygenated water to process the bacteria.

It'll be fine

When you take one out there is a small chance of a mini-cycle but it's unlikely unless the one you take out is large compared to the others left running.

another easy way is what I do, I have taken the sponges out of my small internal filter and put them in the bottom of my external filter. This way is a win, win.... I get the extra filtration in my external filter plus if ever I need to use my internal filter the foams are already loaded with bacteria...

Just to warn people I've had 3 out of 6 of the cheap hidom heaters fail to keep a stable temp causing swings from 24-27 so keep a good eye on the temp

Quick question , probably a stupid question lol but I'll ask anyway

When quarantining is finished and said fish is considered healthy to add to the main tank , what do you do with the filter media from the quarantine tank? Chuck it and add new filter foams to main filter for next time? or put it back into main tank filter for the next time it's needed?

I only ask as I'm paranoid that if I add the quarantine filter media back into main tank I could be possibly introducing possible parasites back into main tank if that makes sense

I bought a tank from Argos £60 for use as a quarantine tank it's 15 gallons so. It to bad in size for the money
