New Tank !! New Tank !! New Tank !!
« on: February 27, 2008, 08:27:42 pm »
Im as happy as a pig in poop....finally decided to stop dreaming and actually buy the new tank Ive been promising myself for months and months

Fluval Roma 240 (came complete with Fluval 305 external filter, twin glo lights, and 300w heater)

Its about double the capacity of my old 3' tank, and the fishes really like the extra room, even my bronze corys which have done nothing but sit on their lazy asses ever since I got them ages ago are now properly swimming about.

I have ordered the 100 various plant pack from 'last-trading-post' on ebay, but have currently been let down, so I am still waiting for them, other than that, I just have to fit in my moonlight led kit and get a few more fish.

Thanks for the appreciation on the photos (my ego swells again)

The substrate is black sand from pets at home, its not cheap at £12 for an 8kg bag (and theres two bags in there) but it does offer a good contrast (as does the plain black background).

Camera settings....erm a little more tricky...basically camera is Canon 400d still using the 17-55 kit lense (just ordered the Canon 50mm 1.8 mkII today, so that should help)

Camera set to full manual, and then using iso, shutter, aperture adjustments, trying to keep iso as low as possible, but often at 1600, sometimes 800, then control the aperture to make sure that the subject will be in full focus, then finally adjust the shutter so as to correctly expose the pic (usually by the time that is sorted the fish have moved).  Adjustments of the light balance should be trialed before you start to shoot properly, so that you have a natural appearance captured.  Another further tip is to set the autofocus to servo and select the centre spot focus point (this means that the af will continually be focusing on the centre dot in the viewfinder)

I hope that helps, and more importantly, makes sense.

Great looking tank, I too really like the look of that substrate :)

Are bronze corys' fins always like that? they look a bit "stumpy" to me, a bit out of proportion with the fish....?

I rather like it without plants..... :)

Your cory looks like a big fat female, how old are they?

Does that mean that the first pic of the Columbian is to be moved...
Sent from my PC as I still don't understand the the logic for mobile internet usage ;) *grin*

    Lovely tank indeed.

I can see why you feel like pig in poop.  With a tank like that I could put up with the smell.  Who would care?  You lucky lucky man - well no maybe you 're not lucky, maybe you deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
