Wow, an incredibly detailed and useful spreadsheet. I particularly like the disease database and the conversion calculator at the back :)

To remove a comment in Excel 2003:

Select the cell(s) containing the comment(s) you want to delete

Then on the Edit menu, point to Clear, and then click Comments

The little red triangle is very useful at times.

I know I said that it is my 'final version', but I have updated it somewhat. It now includes various other functions.

I will be posting it soon

Thanks Colin

I have been asked to add some more functions I.E. The ability to record GH, KH, Fe and CO2

Also to change the Calculator to include water volume, weight & stock level (I have just finished this part)

It shouldn't be to long before I can release the 'next' version

Post by: clive1512 on April 15, 2011, 10:00:43 pm
Hi all

I have completed a major update to my water parameters spreadsheet (now version 4)

The functions are now as follows:

Home page
Water parameters (now with the option for recording GH, KH, Fe & CO2)
Tank details
Tank maintenance
Disease database
Calculator (now with the choice to input in either imperial or metric & the ability to calculate Volume, Weight & stocking level.
Output is both imperial & metric)
Compatibility guide
Notes (calendar & other notes sections)
New menu structure with the ability to save & backup from each page

Important
The speadsheet was created using Visual Basic, in order to use it, you must enable Macros when asked

can i just ask - i am no computer expert and everytime i open its telling me the macros have been disabled and i need to enable to make the spreadsheet work. How do I stop this from happening?
Title: Re: Major update to Spreadsheet for recording Aquarium water parameters & more
Post by: Colin on April 30, 2011, 07:41:03 pm
From memory, I no longer have office. You go to tools, security, macro security - set that to medium I believe.

then when you open the file you will be asked to activate the macros, say yes, you want it to ask you because there are some macros that can be harmful to computers.

Many thanks for all your kind comments.
Sorry I haven't got back to anyone sooner, I have been so busy at work together with working on a seriously dramatic update to the workbook. I will be posting it soon (I hope)

Again, many thanks for your comments

Title: Re: Major update to Spreadsheet for recording Aquarium water parameters & more

Hi Colin
Yes, it has been tested in Openoffice (although not by me) and works fully

In the post immediately following this reply, I have posted the update.

When I get time, I will install Openoffice and personally test it

I have made a lot of dramatic changes to the 'Water parameters' Excel workbook (now called My Aquarium)
For those who have seen the previous version, you will see how dramatic the changes have been.
See the description below...

Home page
From here, you can access the various sections...

My fish
List your fish species and record when you add fish & when (if any) have died. This information is used in the 'fish charts' section.

Fish charts
See what effect if any, changing one water parameter has on other parameters. In addition, using the information when you added fish & when (if any) have died, along with other selectable data (such as ammonia nitrates etc), you can see any correlation and maybe a possible reason for your fishes demise. Viewable in year view & monthly view, with the ability to print off the charts with any selected chart lines.

Monthly water parameters
Record pH, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, GH, KH, Fe, Co2, (with 'at a glance' charts), fertilisers, root tablets & Co2 bubbles per sec (all used in the fish charts section)

Tank details
List your equipment etc
Up to 2 filters (used in the maintenance section)
Up to 8 lighting tubes/bulbs (used in the maintenance section)
up to 8 fertilisers (used in the monthly water parameters & fish charts sections)
Root tablets in use? (used in the monthly water parameters & fish charts sections)
Co2 bubble counter in use? (used in the monthly water parameters & fish charts sections)
Heating, air pump etc

Maintenance
Record water changes
Record gravel vacumn
Record filter media changes
Record light tubes/bulb renewals
Record equipment cleaning

Disease database
Database of the most common diseases

Calculator
Measurement conversion tables
Calculate volume, weight & stock level in imperial or metric (with ability to print)
Ammonia strength calculator (with ability to print)
Calculate Co2 (with ability to print)
Fertiliser dosing calculator for the most common fertilisers in use today

Compatibility guide
Using known traits, this guide will give you an indication on the compatibility of different species

Notes
Various:
Forum member profile info, useful websites, a calendar & personal notes

Save

Backup

Save As - on completion, there is an option to completely clear all data or partially clear all data (leaving tank details & fish names).

General
Auto adjusts workbook display to the best suited for your current screen resolution (does not! change your screen resolution)

In order to preserve the formatting within the workbook, Cutting, Copying & Pasting have been disabled. Pasting (text only) can still be achieved by right click and paste.

I would like to add my sincere thanks and gratitude to Toosie for all his help (advise & testing), without whom the workbook would not have grown to this level of detail.

The file is here:

I can't seem to get it working in Open Office. On the main page with all the 'links' to other spread sheets when I click on them nothing happens. Its as if there just a picture. I have enabled macro aswell. Any tips?  :(

its not compatible with open office, Clive has said he will work on converting it but it will take time :( fortunately for me I have a copy of Office 2003 somewhere I can use.

Has anyone else downloaded it today?

I did in work just to have a look. It crashed my PC, not allowing it to be shutdown, then when booted back it it ran excruciatingly slowly, with the HD running permanently. I ran Kaspersky AV and it found 'Katusha Trojan' in my downloads folder, the only thing in there being the spreadsheet.

Is it possible someone's hacked the download site?

Title: Re: Seriously dramatic changes to the 'Water parameters' Excel workbook

Hi Colin

I have uploaded the file in Excel 2003 format. However, I believe I mentioned that the file would be a great deal larger. It is in fact 84.5 Mb. Large file size is a known problem with Excel versions earlier than 2007

May I suggest trying the MS Compatibilty pack first, found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en)

Otherwise the Excel 2003 file is here:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/eln774dhreszb37/My%20Aquarium%20V12a.xls (http://www.mediafire.com/file/eln774dhreszb37/My%20Aquarium%20V12a.xls)

I have just contacted three of my colleagues (in different parts of the UK). They have just downloaded and opened the workbook without any problems. Not sure what the problem you have is. Is it that you cannot download the file at all?

I have been told that the MS Compatibility pack works without any problems with the 2003 .XLS version of the workbook.

Hope you get your PC sorted out.

Not sure if quite a few various people in thread even frequent the forums anymore to be honest ....

But either way, its a spreadsheet to keep info about tanks etc.
