Catfish / can I keep Cory fry and Pleco fry together?
« Last post by alexd on October 16, 2020, 08:23:38 pm »
I transferred some pleco eggs from my main tank to a smaller 50 litre tank, and now have a few 1 month old pleco/
I also have just put some Cory eggs in a hatchery in my main tank, hoping they will hatch - if they do can I put them in with the pleco or will they get eaten? Pleco are around 1 cm at the moment.

Tank Logs. / 75L £15 second hand fish tank

Hi all,

So I recently got a cheap fishtank off ebay 60cm x 30cm x 40cm ish. Got it home and gave it a deep clean then filled it up to test for leaks. No leaks so all was good.

I wanted to have some company in my home office, so i made a space on my desk for it :D

I got some black gravel, sand and a couple of small stones for deco, gave it all a wash and marked out where the sand would go and put in all in the tank. I put a layer of compost under the gravel as I was hoping to try and grow some plants well this time round.

A day or 2 later my filter and heater arrived (eheim pickup 160, 75 wat Eheim heater), so i put them in and added water.

a day later i got a £10 led light off ebay and added 10 x Sagittaria subulata and also got some dwarf hair grass.

Yesterday my background came. I have never actually put a background on a tank before - I like it but next time i think i will just paint the tank first.

I got an NT Labs test kit and put in the filter start solution and also tested my water. Obviously no ammonia has shown up yet. Mainly because it hasn't arrived ( nor has my fish food). Nitrite and nitrate are present so there was definitely something in the filter start lol.

So thats where I am now :)

I was hoping to get some german blue rams and just a few neon tetra, however my water is hard, so i will have to soften it before the fish go in.

I have 2 Ehiem Pro 600's running on my Rio 450 and can't hear them. I also have the pre filters fitted. Clean them out at every water change so only clean the main filters once a year.

I’m looking at adding more filtration to my tank currently a trigon 190 with a Oase 600 external running, I’ve got mixed Malawi mbuna in it.

Has anyone used or use sponge filters?

Biggest I’ve had upstairs was a 6ft x 2ft x 18”.

A 90L on a cabinet will be fine.

I have the All Pond Solutions EFX+ canister filter filled with Biohome media (no foam filter media) and the All Pond solutions EF-2 Pre-Filter. I have found this combination works really well in keeping the water clear and the fish healthy; I also only have to clean the pre-filter from time to time and never open the main filter as no dirt gets through to it.

My problem is excessive noise from the EFX+. It's in the cabinet for the tank and with the doors closed I'm getting about 47DB of noise from about 1 metre away; I have to keep the door to the room with the fish tank in closed due to the noise.

Is there such a thing as a quiet filter, or as quiet as you can get?

I was thinking about one of the larger Eheim filters such as the Professional 4+ as I've heard it's fairly quiet, or maybe the Fluval FX6, maybe you know better?

Doesn't have to be an Eheim, I'd just heard good things about them.

My tank holds approx. 125ltrs of water.

Newbies / Thinking about buying Angelfish?
« Last post by richard49 on September 20, 2020, 10:51:03 am »
My tank is 125 ltrs and measures 90cm x 36cm x 36cm

I'd love to have several Angelfish but have heard that they can get quite large and might not be suited for my tank size?

If that is that case maybe there are some species of Angelfish that don't grow quite so large and would be suited to my tank?

If so what species (is that the correct wording 'species'?) would you recommend and how many would you recommend?

I also plan on having a few other fish such a Rummy Nosed Tetra, Dwarf Gourami and Swordtails to keep them company as I've heard they're suitable for keeping with angelfish?

Any advice for a newbie would be very welcome.
