General Aquaria / Re: Fish Tank Upstairs
« Last post by blackghost on September 24, 2020, 10:36:44 am »
Biggest I’ve had upstairs was a 6ft x 2ft x 18”.

A 90L on a cabinet will be fine.
Aquarium Decor, DIY and Equipment. / Quiest Filter - is there such a beast?

I have the All Pond Solutions EFX+ canister filter filled with Biohome media (no foam filter media) and the All Pond solutions EF-2 Pre-Filter. I have found this combination works really well in keeping the water clear and the fish healthy; I also only have to clean the pre-filter from time to time and never open the main filter as no dirt gets through to it.

My problem is excessive noise from the EFX+. It's in the cabinet for the tank and with the doors closed I'm getting about 47DB of noise from about 1 metre away; I have to keep the door to the room with the fish tank in closed due to the noise.

Is there such a thing as a quiet filter, or as quiet as you can get?

I was thinking about one of the larger Eheim filters such as the Professional 4+ as I've heard it's fairly quiet, or maybe the Fluval FX6, maybe you know better?

Doesn't have to be an Eheim, I'd just heard good things about them.

My tank holds approx. 125ltrs of water.

Newbies / Thinking about buying Angelfish?
« Last post by richard49 on September 20, 2020, 10:51:03 am »
My tank is 125 ltrs and measures 90cm x 36cm x 36cm

I'd love to have several Angelfish but have heard that they can get quite large and might not be suited for my tank size?

If that is that case maybe there are some species of Angelfish that don't grow quite so large and would be suited to my tank?

If so what species (is that the correct wording 'species'?) would you recommend and how many would you recommend?

I also plan on having a few other fish such a Rummy Nosed Tetra, Dwarf Gourami and Swordtails to keep them company as I've heard they're suitable for keeping with angelfish?

Any advice for a newbie would be very welcome.

We moved house just over a year ago and haven't had the time to get around to setting up my tank until last week.

I've always had a 'plain' tank with just gravel and a few plants and of course fish but have no gone down the route of using the correct aqua soil to benefit plant growth and have dragon stone organised with a path of white gravel through the middle of the tank to give it a 'feature'.

My tank is 90cm long and holds (approx.) 120 ltrs

Now just waiting for the tank to 'settle in' before choosing some fish.

Sooo not a newbie but feel like one lol.

Been laid off from looking after these little crettins and now back at it. I have been looking for a tank for some RB Piranhas while i build a 4x2x2 for them

Tempted to splash out on a brand new tank so popping to the dreaded BAS in Bolton tomorrow to have another look for a 4 foot tank as it will come in for more fish later no doubt lol.

Quick end to a long story, we was planning oin moving onto a boat but now we are staying out in the brick square thing i can now build my tank, either a 2000l tank or a much bigger one, we will see.

my last tank was this. DIY back ground and a meter cube. loved that tank

Catfish / Corydoras tank height
« Last post by parislondonparis on September 16, 2020, 09:21:43 am »
Can Corydoras deal with higher tanks? I am thinking of putting together a 31” high tank, mainly focussed on angels. I was hoping to add a nice school of Corydoras. In my other tanks the Corydoras regularly go to the surface to gulp some air. I know this is quite normal, but it always looks to me like it takes them a lot of effort to get up the 18 inches or so that their tanks are high. Would 31” be an issue for them?

Thank you
General Aquaria / Re: connecting multiple tanks. Good idea? if so how?

You could connect the tanks with a length of pipe out of one and into the next, if you didn’t want the finality of drilling holes in the glass. You just need the ends of the pipes to be low enough so that air doesn’t get in when you do a water change. Basically a siphon from one tank to the next that’s permanently in place.
Hi all,

As the title really.

I'm looking at keeping a pair of german blue rams in a 90 litre tank - would this be oki?

Also what fish would go well with?
